Intermission
We did not fall off the face of the trucking planet….sorta. We took time off during our transition to visit family. We started with a trip to Michigan. So very grateful to mom! We were able to leave ALL of the stuff out of our truck and our puppy, which looks ginormous next to hers, while we continued on our journey to visit our boys and go through orientation with the new company.
We continued down to North Carolina to see our boys.
Our oldest and his wife flew in from Okinawa and joined us in celebrating the 21st birthday of our youngest. This was the first time we have been together in 673 days, nearly 2 years!! We feel very blessed to have our communication abilities of today. I couldn’t imagine having the boys grow up, join the military, and leave home without texting, Skype and Facebook! Not sure how our parents did it.
We rented a furnished apartment for our stay; we wanted a space to enjoy our time with the kids. The first part of our stay we worked on Mason’s project truck, a 1985 Chevy K5 Blazer. We were able to get things put together enough to start it and see if it ran. What awesome fun it is working on old school vehicles and being able to see your boys’ face when the rumble of his V8 comes to life!
It was a short visit with all five of us together, but awesome!! It was great giving and receiving gifts in person. This makes it sounds as if we are materialistic, but we are not. It is just different when you get to be in the same room when a person opens a gift you gave. Even though we have spent many celebrations over Skype it was awesome to experience the feeling in person. Interesting the appreciation you have for small things when they have been removed for a time. Mason had just returned from his deployment in Africa and brought us some souvenirs, Roman and Mikayla came in from Japan, and it was Mason’s birthday.
The other minutes of our time we spent just hanging out. It was awesome to just talk story and enjoy the priceless moments as parents hearing the kids giggling and visiting. So as we are nearing the end of our visit, we are thankful for the time we have had, couldn’t be more proud of the men our boys have become, thrilled for the daughter we have gained, and are so very thankful for our adventure of trucking, which has given us the ability to spend such time with our family!
We will be heading to orientation with the new company starting Monday. We are excited for the next chapter in our new adventure. More updates to come….
