Random Thoughts
Did you know…. We didn’t…. Just some random thoughts we have learned or discovered on our adventure over the last few months.
So, here we go….did you know –
The United States is huge! I mean it is really, really big! It goes on forever! There are still parts that are just open, not developed! I couldn’t imagine traveling across her on horseback or in a covered wagon. Unbelievable!
Washington, the state, has grapes…lots of them…lots of vineyards. Was kind of surprised at this one. Knew they were famous for apples, but they have rolling hills of grape vines too!
Oregon has beautiful pine trees!!! They are a gorgeous shade of green and nearly perfectly formed. No, this was not a tree farm. These were growing all on their own along Interstate 84.
California has traffic…no matter time of day. Seriously….you wouldn’t know it was night if it wasn’t for the darkness. Cars everywhere! Highway 395 that runs down through the eastern park looks a lot like Colorado. So much so that Mojo starts whimpering and whining thinking we should be getting out and playing that the only thing we can figure is it reminds him of home.
Lake Mead in Nevada looks like it is almost empty! Shocking to see how high up the water line is compared to where the water stands.
Kansas is NOT flat. Yes I know I have always said it was, and in a passenger vehicle it is…but in a big truck…there’s hills. Yes, I was shocked too!
Florida IS flat! Possibly the flattest state in the Union. The only hills are the man made overpasses.
The eastern part of Arizona has dinosaurs. Lots of them! Some are even eating people!! No joke, there are bodies hanging out of their mouths! Along the sides of the highways off in the fields they have long neck, T-Rex and Triceratops!!
New Mexico has lava! Black mounds of it along the interstate. If you didn’t know, or it was dark, you might think the road crews got lazy when they resurfaced the road and just left asphalt piled.
If you drive through Albuquerque in the morning, more times than not you will see hot air balloons floating above in the blue sky.
They say everything is bigger in Texas….look at the cross!! It’s ginormous!!The panhandle of Texas has windmills…and they turn. Along I-40, we see windmills and no oil pumps in the fields.
Speaking of windmills, they all have a red light that blinks. So at night all across as far as the eye can see the earth blinks on and off a red light. Talk about feeling like Christmas.
Oklahoma has windmills too, but very rarely does one ever move. They possible rival Arkansas for bad roads, but they have the cheapest fuel we have seen.
Arkansas has the worst condition of highway of all the states! Oh my! Bumpy beyond measure. If you are attempting to sleep in the bunk you often catch air while going through Arkansas.
West Virginia has almost mountains. They call them mountains and if they haven’t seen the Rockies then I can understand. However they still have trees on the tops of them, so they are almost mountains. Now, what surprised me about them was that there are a couple of them that have a 6% grade with runaway truck ramps every half mile or so and the whole run is only a mile and a half to two miles. So very different than Colorado!
Colorado still has the biggest mountain passes. I figured there would have been another state that would have more or bigger….but none yet!
Wisconsin has the coolest farm houses. They also have billboards for their cheese…not really a surprise but did have us giggle about a cheese curd farm…never saw one of those before! Maybe we were a little tired that day.
Minnesota is not only the land of lakes it is the land of bugs!! They have a gazillion of them and we massacred countless amounts! Cleaned them off at every opportunity…GROSS!
Speaking of gross, Utah has a bee farm along the Interstate! All is good and well with a bee farm, until they are happily flying around…..splat!! Lots of splats!! Sounded like we were getting hit by hail. Bikers beware!
The largest American flags can be seen at Camping World! Unbelievably large flags flown at nearly every Camping World we have seen across the country. I love it!
It is really awesome to see American flags flying everywhere. There are still a lot of patriotic people and companies in the United States!!
We are still amazed on a regular basis that we are having this adventure. We work for a fantastic company and get paid to ‘tour’ the country. We have been to or through 42 states in the last 3 months. Feeling very blessed!!
