Hoover Dam
Hoover Dam….our latest adventure! We had a few extra hours to work with before our delivery. Lucky for us, it happened to work out that we were able to be near a fun spot during daylight hours. We pass many places (and people) we would love to visit, however so many times it is in the middle of the night. So to be able to get to one of ‘those’ places was a pretty exciting thing! On top of the timing of it all, the weather was absolutely beautiful!! After some research and asking around we weren’t sure we would be able to pull it off with the truck. So, yet again, we just did it! We were able to bobtail (without trailer) in and across the Hoover Dam. There was a security checkpoint we had to go through. Very simple inspection, similar to entering a military installation. Once we were through that we were on our way. We drove across the dam and parked on the Arizona side. We then walked back across the dam to visitor center. We purchased two DAM tours, we had to wait a couple of hours for the DAM tour, so we visited all the DAM exhibits and the DAM Café. We ordered two Cheese DAM burgers with fries and drinks, it was damn expensive, but tasty! The tour was about an hour long which took us from the top down 54 floors to the hydroelectric generator system. It was very cool….like 60 degrees cool….oh and very fascinating. The interior of the DAM and power plant was decorated ‘art deco’ with marble tiles, intricate intentional designs in the floor, aluminum and bronze doors, light fixtures, and archways which were all original from 1935!! It was incredible and beautiful!! It was shocking to see how low the water was in Lake Mead. In the photos you can see how high the water has been. The highest was around 1983, which is about the last time Grant was here. Enjoy the rest of the photos as well…we have tried to add some descriptions so you know what you are seeing. Again we are very blessed and loving this job! One of the perks….getting to travel around the country and visiting the really cool places like this!
