We were robbed!! No pretty sunrise, no mountain tops, no beautiful blue skies. It is so rare we get to Colorado. When we do get an assignment that allows us to deliver or drive through the state, we look forward to seeing the beauty of the mountains and deep blue sky. Not so much this time through, in fact if there were not signs we would not have recognized the Denver area and north to Wyoming. This was an in and out, super quick stop. Next stop, another rarity, heading to the Seattle, Washington area. As we left Denver, the rain which turned to sleet started and didn’t stop until we were most of the way through Wyoming. Reading the overhead signs that were warning of the winter weather of blowing snow and poor visibility, we were thankful we were just blazing through that section during the day.
One thing that is sad about our adventures is driving new sections or rarely visited areas in the dark. It is such a tease being able to see some of the features on the GPS or what you can out the window with aide of your headlights and moonlight. I am not sure which is worse, not being able to stop at what you can see during the day or not being able to see them at all because of the darkness. Ah, such is life and on we go to our before dawn delivery.
Out and backs, ugh. Typically, I am not fond of taking the same path back as I did on the way out, whether it be an adventure in a car, a bike ride or a run. However, this time was the exception. Our next adventure took us back on the same path….but during the daylight!! Yea, Snoqualmie by day! We get to see the beauty of northeast Oregon without having to visualize what it must look like. This must be our makeup for missing Colorado’s views.
So, my verdict is …… I would rather see the beauty and not be able to stop than have to imagine what it must look like. With that I will leave you all with another question we used to ask ourselves when we were growing up. Would you rather loose your vision or your hearing?
