MOJO

Meet the third ‘person’ in our truck. This is our dog, Mojo. He is our almost five year old pit bull human. Now, don’t get me wrong…he is a dog and a dog is a pet. This one thinks he fits into the pecking order between Grant and I. Grant is the master and I am the servant.

We regularly have arguments regarding who is the rightful owner of the passenger seat while Grant is driving and who is leading whom on our walks. Actually it is quite comical and he virtually never wins…in his time frame. Nevertheless, he’s a sweetheart and very obedient. It is challenging to find the right words to paint a good picture of what those conversations look like. He definitely has attitude and sass! I would seriously love to hear his voice and thoughts!! He makes me giggle watching his antics.

As he is perched in the passenger seat, one of his fascinations is looking for cows. We often wonder if he was a cow in a past life or something. He will ride along scanning the countryside in search of a cow. The only time we can get him to bark on command (other than asking if mamma’s home while he is sitting on my lap) is when Grant moos like a cow. It is like Mojo speaks cow. When he does spot a cow out his window he pops up, ears up, and will track them as they go by, to the extent of pressing his nose against the window to get that final glimpse. So imagine when we were stuck in traffic with this trailer full of cows in front of us! The talking turned into yelling, as if he was telling them they needed to get out and looking at us saying we needed to do something. Almost near panic on his part.

Another thing that puts him into a tizzy is when Grant leaves the truck and I stay. He will stand guard watching out the windows and even check the mirrors awaiting his return. Oh my, if I move the truck at all and Grant is not inside Mojo starts freaking out. Whimpering and whining at me, nearly scolding me for potentially leaving daddy. You should see his reaction when Grant does return. The excitement first and then the ratting me out telling Grant all about how I was going to leave him, and finally seeking praise for stopping me.

Actually his communication skills are pretty impressive. He isn’t terrible to have around. Great companion and fun to play with. He’s a great reason to stop and get a bit of exercise playing with him. He’s a great creeper detector and all around detractor. On board security takes on a whole new meaning. Sadly the media has assisted with this aspect. People automatically think that he is going to eat them. They walk a super wide path around the truck not taking their wide eyes off him, like any second he is going to leap through the glass. I guess I am glad they really don’t know is an absolute sweetheart…that is unless you have bad intentions. It also works this way when I have him on a lease for our walks at the truck stops or rest areas. It gives me a small sense of security. When we are walking he is happy to meet new people after he has evaluated them. Some people he is absolutely comfortable with and others his hair stands up on the back of his neck and his stance takes a defensive posture. Those ones I look at and usually agree…’yup, they’re a creeper’!

All things considered, we are blessed to have such a wonderful trucking companion. He is great for snuggles, hugs, kisses, conversation and fun! It seems we get more compliments on him than anything else. We are thrilled to have such a well behaved trucker dog!
